Ceramic cutlery is becoming very popular in kitchens across the country. Ceramic knives, under normal home kitchen use, can stay sharp from many months if not years.

The secret to ceramic knives is the Zirconium Oxide blades. Zirconium Oxide is a relatively new material. It was first developed for industrial purposes when steel was not strong enough for the jobs. They resist nearly all wear from normal kitchen use. Generally, these knives only need to be sharpened to repair chips which are from improper usage or handling.

Eagle Ceramic knives should be hand washed and should not be put in the dishwasher. They can be stored in a knife block or a knife sleeve. The handles are made from sturdy ABS Resin. Each knife is covered by a 5 year manufacturer warranty.

A forged metal blade may be susceptible to corrosion. Over time a metal knife's edge can "roll" or "pit". A ceramic blade is much harder than steel knives. The ceramic materials in these knives are second, in hardness, only to diamonds. These ceramic knife blades are actually HARDER than steel knives.

Eagle's Black Blade knives are made using a special "sintering" (re-heat & pressing) process. This chemically changes the Zirconium Oxide into Zirconium Carbide. The chemical reaction actually makes the blade several times harder! The result of the change is also to change the blade color from white to black.
